Coastal Kingdoms & Holy Islands: St Abbs, Lindisfarne & Bamburgh Castle
£65.00
Embark on a breathtaking journey with Wanderlust Tours as we cross the border to explore the epic coastlines of Scotland and Northumberland. This is a day for lovers of dramatic sea cliffs, ancient stories, and castles that seem to rise from legend. True to our spirit, this tour is designed at a relaxed pace, giving you the freedom to breathe in the salty air, walk the historic ground, and truly feel the magic of these three incredible locations.
Our first stop is the charming fishing village of St Abbs. Tucked into the rugged Berwickshire coast, this picturesque harbour is a feast for the eyes, so much so that it was chosen as the filming location for the Asgardian village in the movie Avengers: Endgame. You’ll have time to wander the coastal paths of the National Nature Reserve, watching for the thousands of seabirds that nest on the cliffs, or simply sit by the harbour and watch the fishing boats bob in the clear water.
Next, we travel across a tidal causeway to a place where time seems to stand still: the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. A cradle of Christianity in Anglo-Saxon England, this sacred island is where the world-renowned Lindisfarne Gospels were created. It was also the site of the first major Viking raid on Britain in 793 AD, an event that shook the Christian world. We ensure there is ample time to explore the serene ruins of the ancient priory, visit the 16th-century castle, and soak in the unique, spiritual atmosphere of an island entirely governed by the rhythm of the tides.
The spectacular finale of our day is the magnificent Bamburgh Castle. A fortress that has dominated the coastline for over 1,400 years, this was the royal seat of the ancient Kings of Northumbria. Its dramatic silhouette, perched atop a volcanic outcrop, is an unforgettable sight. You'll have plenty of freedom to explore its opulent state rooms, walk the mighty battlements with their stunning sea views, and discover the secrets of a castle that has witnessed epic battles and stood as a beacon of power for centuries.
This tour connects you with the sagas of saints, kings, and warriors. Hop aboard our comfortable minibus and let us guide you through a landscape of unforgettable beauty and profound history.
