OUR STORY

"Expect authenticity, intimate groups, affectionate humour that makes history feel alive — and fun."
Meet Chris...

Hi, I’m Chris. I founded and own Wanderlust Tours because I wanted to share my personal love for Scotland with fellow explorers like you. My most important job here, however, is being your guide.

For me, the call to explore isn’t just a business—it has been a lifelong passion. It all started when I was young, wandering the forests and hills as a Scout and discovering the incredible world beneath the waves as a scuba diver.

That sense of wanderlust has been the one constant in my life, following me through a career path that has been anything but ordinary. I’ve worked as a commercial diver in the depths, a welder, in private security, and as a scuba instructor. No matter what I was doing, the urge to see what lay over the next hill never left me.

While guiding for other tour companies, something simply clicked. I realised that sharing my passion for Scotland’s incredible history, ancient castles, and breathtaking scenery was what I was meant to do. This feeling was so strong that I knew I had to build this company—not just as a business, but as a way to share that passion directly with you.

As a fully qualified and licensed driver, my goal is to provide a safe, comfortable, and unforgettable journey through the heart of Scotland. I cannot wait to explore this amazing place with you!

Meet Craig...

I am Craig, Dad to Christopher, and the Transport Manager for Wanderlust Tours. I recently retired from a lifelong career in the electronics industry, where I specialised in Project Management and Business Development.

I have always had a keen interest in the outdoors, a passion first formed during my years in the Scout Association. I particularly enjoyed our outdoor activities: hill walking, youth hostelling, camping, and water sports. In 2017, I spent six weeks touring New Zealand with a group of fellow rugby fans from across the UK, following the British & Irish Lions Tour. It was an incredible experience, seeing fantastic new places and meeting such friendly people. Then, in 2022, I achieved a bucket-list goal by trekking to Everest Base Camp with the same group.

These life experiences—from Scouting to more recent adventures—have stayed with me, and I am grateful to have passed that love for the outdoors on to Christopher. In retirement, I can now dedicate my time to helping Christopher realise his dreams of sharing our wonderful country with you. I wish you all many happy times and memorable experiences with Wanderlust Tours.

  • A Life Lived in Motion

I have never been one for a desk, a classroom, or a script. At 14, I walked away from the traditional path to find my own way through the world. For me, "home" was the coastal path of my childhood, cycling between towns and roaming the shoreline forests. However, it was the Scout movement and my local dive club that truly kept me grounded.

I didn’t just pass through the Scouts; I worked my way up through every single stage. I started as a Beaver, progressed through Cubs, Scouts, and Explorers, and eventually came full circle to become a Cub Leader. That journey, alongside my time cleaning kit at the dive club just to be part of the action, taught me the value of community and leadership. It was among the trees of the Scottish Scout headquarters and the rugged coastlines of my local shore that I realised the world was much larger than the four walls of a house.

    The Perspective of the Deep

By 18, I was living at a commercial dive school, training in subsea tools and air diving. After qualifying, I worked as a commercial diver—an experience that made me feel like an aquanaut. In the deep, every moment felt like a new world; a silent frontier that few people ever get to see.

My career hasn’t been a straight line; it has been a collection of high-stakes environments. I’ve worked private security at the UK’s biggest festivals, hauled hand-dived shellfish on commercial boats, worked as a welder, and lived abroad as a scuba instructor.

These experiences didn't just teach me a trade; they gave me a completely different perspective on the world. When you spend your life underwater or in the heart of a festival crowd, you develop a hunger to see things from every possible angle—above the surface, below it, and everywhere in between. I bring that same drive for a "different perspective" to the road today.

The Antidote to the "Corporate" Tour

After years of adventure, I found myself working for larger, corporate tour companies. I quickly realised I didn’t fit their mould. I had no interest in "tartan tropes" or 30-second drive-by photo stops. Most of all, I disliked the "my bus, my rules" mentality.

I regularly broke the corporate "rules" because moments matter more than conformity. I don't care about being late back if it means we can share a perfect sunset. If there’s a hidden gem along the route that adds immense value, we stop. I refuse to treat my passengers like numbers on a spreadsheet; I want you to arrive as strangers and leave as friends.

    Wanderlust: A Driving Force

The word Wanderlust was once described to me as a "longing for adventure", and it was a lightbulb moment. It wasn't just a word; it was my life’s mission.

I don’t go where I’m told; I go where I love. Every tour I offer is a route I have personally chosen because I deeply appreciate the landscape. This isn’t a "paint-by-numbers" company—it is bold, rebellious, and open to the whimsical. If you want a specific song on the stereo, we’ll play it. If you have a question, ask it. If we can fit in a spontaneous request, we will.

    Luxury with a Soul

We have built our 16-seater luxury minibus to be the perfect vessel for these journeys. With a panoramic glass roof, mood lighting, and premium seating, it is designed for absolute comfort. But the vehicle is just the tool. The real experience is the connection, the organic exchanges, and the feeling that borders no longer exist.

Wanderlust isn’t just our name. It’s a part of our soul. If it’s a part of yours, let’s find the next horizon together.
